From Your Teacher ---
Welcome to Sixth Grade!!  Allow me to introduce myself - I am Mrs. Amato, and I will be your teacher for your sixth grade year of schooling.  I am very excited about this upcoming year.  We have many things to learn and do together.  I hope this will be an academically challenging year for all of you!

Here's a little background information on me.  I am originally from central Iowa.  I lived there until I started my ninth grade year in school when I attended Wentzville High School, near St. Louis.  At semester break we moved, and I finished the rest of my secondary education at Camdenton R-III Schools.  I then worked for the local newspaper in many capacities over the following five years from classified advertising to news reporting. What fun!

In 1986 I married my best friend, Chuck.  Our daughter, Mikel, was born in 1988.  She will be attending seventh grade here at Macks Creek.  We have a family business installing underground irrigation systems.  Mikel and I have both enjoyed helping Chuck install sprinklers this summer.  We have two family pets.  Clyde is our ol' orange kitty, and Fergie is our seven year old Boston Terrier.

I graduated from Southwest Missouri State University in August of 1997 and have been enjoying teaching at Macks Creek R-V Schools ever since.  I love teaching sixth graders!  They have such a wonderful sense of humor.  Don't you agree?

I have high expectations for all of you!  I believe sixth graders should be positive role models for the elementary.  This includes the time during school hours and also non school hours.  This is the reason our classroom address is NorthStar Avenue.  We should ALWAYS set an exemplary example to be followed by others.

Upcoming Tests ---  The first test will be August 17.  You will take several placement tests so I can determine where we need to start. They are also great to look back to at the end of the year to see how far you have come.  Following placement tests, the first true test dates will be several weeks down the road.  I will try not to have two tests on the same day, however, sometimes it is unavoidable.  You will always have plenty of notice to schedule yourself so that you can study the week prior to any tests.

Contests, Awards, Honors ---  We will have several contests throughout the year.  We will have a class contest to determine who will compete in the actual contest.  No matter whether you have competed before or not - it's a new year - so give it your best shot!!
